Wondering:

“you have to be careful, ask yourself questions, as for example whether you still are, and if no when it stopped, and if yes how long it will still go on, anything at all to keep you from losing the thread of the dream.”

Samuel Beckett, Molloy

It seems appropriate at Yom Kippur, the most solemn day of the Jewish New Year observance, to think not only about our sins, but about our dreams. After all, which do we want to carry forward with us, sins or dreams, into a New Year?

Becket is definitely “out there.” Perhaps that’s a good thing. Sadly, I can’t wrap my mind around religion. It’s like that old quote: “What do you think about American civilization?” Answer. “It would be a good idea.” So many religious people are willing to use their religion to “dis” another person’s faith.
