Miss Stein Speaks —

and she says:

You look ridiculous if you dance

You look ridiculous if you don’t dance

So you might as well dance

People (critic types, and lowbrows, and highbrows, lots of people, actually) used to make fun of Gertrude Stein’s writings. But she said a lot of really sensible things, and she said ’em straight out, too.

You might as well dance—

Does the same hold true for blog posts? Hope so!

Ah – Calvin and Hobbes! Hobbes is my role model. I like Gertrude, too. One of my favorite Stein quotes is: An audience is always warming but it must never be necessary to your work.

I often dance – all by myself in my little cottage to some favorite tune or out of doors when the sun and the wind and the sheer beauty of it all grab me up and swing me about. What someone else thinks of me is just that… they’re entitled to those thoughts but they don’t have much to do with me. Dance on, I say!
