Orchids are rather like fireworks, everybody is always going OOOOOOH! and AAAAAAAAH! at the sight. Not me. I think some of them are exotic, others are beautiful, and still others are, frankly, weird. My first post showed you some of the exotics at the recent Amherst Orchid Society show here in Northampton. Today we’re looking at the beautiful.
These are my picks and reflect my personal preference for Phalaenopsis orchids, which are usually known as “moth orchids”, but if I had my way would be called “butterfly orchids.” They look like gorgeous butterflies frozen in flight, and are so lovely they take my breath away. See if you agree:
So lovely they might be called “angel wings.” And in closeup:
I do think those are definitive in their category. I’m also including these three sprays of orchids in the Beautiful sweepstakes. I don’t know their variety (if anyone does, please holler) but I loved all three.
I can only label them, PINK spray orchids —
Another spray, this time in YELLOW:
Finally, this mostly white cascade:
The third and final installment comes up this weekend, the weird orchids —- Till then, as the Navajo blessing says, Walk in Beauty!
Ohhh so very beautiful!!! Loved them all!

I’m glad, Cee. The final post will be the weird ones!!! But maybe other people will think they’re beautiful also. Taste, after all, is in the eyes of the beholder. Thanks so much for coming by and commenting. I appreciate it.

I adore white flowers, and these orchids are a visual delight. I particularly like the “angel’s wings.” Walk—or fly—in beauty, indeed.

I think you deserve a beautiful bowl of white flowers this weekend, especially ones that smell delicious. How about some freesias?
Or if you have a Trader Joe, it’s a good place to buy a reasonably priced orchid, even the “angel” ones sometimes.
Then you can fly in beauty!

What a lovely thought. My mother actually surprised me with a beautiful gardenia plant, which smells heavenly!

All gorgeous, but honestly, I can’t wait until the next installment. Flowers make the best subjects. Thanks for sharing.

On this post, I only know the phalaenopsis orchids, which I’ve described as the “butterfly orchids”, although properly they’re called “moth orchids.”The beautiful spray orchids — I have no idea! I hoped maybe one of you viewers would know! 🙂

Well … I tend to agree with you about Orchids, basically because it seems to be so much fuss about ‘raising’ them.
This said … the first, white one is really, really beautiful!!!
LikeLike
Oh, if someone else would raise them for me, I’d be delighted to show them off in my house any day!
But so far no one’s offered —
(OTOH, the moth orchids, the ones I call butterflies, like that white one — in fact are easy to keep alive for the few months they’ll blossom. Three ice cubes a week added to a moderate sized pot will do the trick. Even for a black thumb like me.)

Beautiful barely begins to describe these! I had some just like the last picture. The flowers lasted forever on my mantle. They were so pretty. I love orchids.

It’s pretty clear you like the spray type of flowers —
Another interesting thing about the show was the passion of the people who grow them, and the people who come to see them.
