Mr. Forbes in Summer

Remember when Judge Charles Edward Forbes, donor of Northampton’s Forbes Library, was all decked out for trick-or-treating at Hallowe’en?

And again this winter, he covered up his ears and dressed suitably for the cold?

Well, it’s been a whole lot hotter this summer than normal, and the Judge has broken decorum.

And here’s the latest bulletin —

Mr. Forbes takes the plunge —Β He’s now dressed for comfort!

Where else but the singular town of Northampton?

Way to go, Mr. Forbes!

No sense of humour failure in your side of the woods I see! Love it.

  2. Haha – thanks for giving me a laugh this morning! Do I see the hint of a smile on Mr Forbes’ stony lips?

It would be nice to think so. But from what I’ve read of him —
      I doubt it!
A man of bronze in many ways, but the library donor was exceedingly generous withal, and we are always grateful.

I love it! One of our neighbors had a wooden bear near their front door and they would put something on it for a holiday or season. They moved away and took him or her with them. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve never figured out who’s in charge of the dress-up at the Forbes.
The librarians all seem pretty solemn and serious — one of ’em must have a wild streak they keep well covered up!

      Interesting point, Joss.
The bust is in the lobby of the library, just beyond the entrance doors. Sometimes against a wall, usually right in the middle. Granted there’s never a big mob of people in the lobby at one time — but your comment reminds me that I’ve never seen anyone else spare a glance for it!!!!!!

Willing to bet it’s the ghost of Mr. Forbes who was told at the pearly gates that unless he lightened up a bit, he wasn’t getting in!

I think you may be shattering all my illusions!
I grew up with Marian the Librarian from The Music Man. (Of course she does end up rather different at the end of the show, hmmm.)
