Friends who fled the wintry North for Florida sunshine want to know how it’s going back home.
Here’s how it’s going:
And here’s how we (try to) deal with it. We rub two words together until the sparks fly, until we can light our internal fire:
In the midst of winter we find in ourselves an invincible Summer.
Albert Camus
We have quite a few friends who do this … flee to Fla. Guess they got a little scare, the day before yesterday, when the state of Fla. decided to NOT allow for Canadians to DRIVE without an international drivers license ! This turned out to be against the Geneva convention so they had to go back on that 😀

A happy ending, in my book! 🙂
I was once in Florida on a business trip with my husband for a few days. I liked Disney at Orlando, but never quite got the appeal of Florida. For winter sun, I enjoyed Tucson — but I like desert very much, more than ocean.

I was there in 1978, with my Mum. Never got the appeal either. Guess it was just too hot and humid for me.

Our daughter to this day says why couldn’t we move to Florida so they’d have a place to visit in the winter!!!!!

That is a cheering thought, cocomino!
We are still buried under the snow, but you remind me that within two weeks the sap will begin to flow in the maple trees here, and the sugaring season will begin.
We live in an area that produces maple syrup. Have you ever tasted it? It’s a very special flavor that is especially delicious on pancakes, with or without bacon. I think your daughters would love it — So would you and your wife, perhaps.

I love maple syrup although it’s expensive here. Of course, my family also like it. It sounds very nice. 🙂

Truth is, it’s on the expensive side here too. They can only make the real stuff once a year.
Have a sweet day, you and your whole family!

Like Emil I’m also in favour of four ‘proper’ seasons. Britain, sadly, pretty much has just the one (grey/drizzle), so in that sense Florida is one up.
Meanwhile this is the time of year I fill the house with spring bulbs and inject colour whatever way I can!

It’s so apparent from your blog that you love color, Karen.
You just gave me a great idea about the spring bulbs and flowers, I neglect them in the florist aisle in the supermarket.
I’ll get some today in honor of you!
Have a colorful day — 🙂

Hope your internal fires found their sparks! Not long to go now before the days get longer and the snowbirds return!

I did see a brilliant cardinal streak past against all the white the other day, but the Alps remain in our front yard.
Underneath — who knows? The new life may be stirring —

Ah J – go buy as many red and yellow flowers as you can find and put them in every room 😉 The days are longer, the sun is warmer and there’s just fickle March to get through – we’re on the upside of spring now.

Excellent, Pauline. I looked at the florist department at Big Y this afternoon, prompted by Karen@PasGrandChose. But I was overwhelmed with choice!
This helps narrow it down for me, I’ll just find a couple of things to put ’em in and go for the reds and yellows, and —- instant spring!

(We’re enough west that we have No Snow Going Sideways. In fact, no snow at all. But the wind is ferocious. Hope it calms DOWN Down down very soon.)

I think I ought to buy a plane ticket to Florida. The good thing of the winter there would be that it would not last for long! 🙂

Even when it’s cold in Florida, I don’t think it dips much below 32 degrees.
Unlike here!
How is this winter in San Diego? I always thought it had the best climate in the U.S.
Always nice to “see” you, Tara, in any season!
